Re: Greek Helms
He has a Norton Corinthian helmet. Hard to find the later chalcidian helmets like yours Fatima, the only people i know made them was Movie Armour (FBFX) but the sold the last of them from the film Alexander last year, you have the last one they made in fact.

Re: Greek Helms
The chalcidian helmet is what you are looking for then.
Movie armour( [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ) made them in polyurethane but as Steve mentioned above have either run out of stock or discontuinued the line.
I would like one of them as well, perhaps if there was enough interest we could approach them for a bulk order? I'd be willing to lead on this and co-ordinate the payment.

Re: Greek Helms
Just off the phone with movie-armour. They have the moulds for the chalcidians but he is not sure what condition they are in. They are currently held in a storage unit and he will check them over when he gets a chance.
If the order was of sufficient size (3 helms) it would be worth his while reconditioning them. For an order of 10 Helms he would make new ones. Size is an issue as the one fatima is wearing is quite small, these would obviously be larger.
Anyway, im off for 2 weeks so hopefully we'll have some more info when i get back.
Please post here if you are interested, i imagine they would cost somewhere in the same region as the corinthian (£120) although i assuem there would be potential for a discount?

Where did you get the helmet in the avatar pic? It looks just like one a friend has made out of fibreglass.
I know this chap has been experimenting with a material that has the same properties as the Norton polyurethane but is paintable (Norton use a f*cking expensive spray machine afaik). That would rule. The helmet I made was pretty shit but it was a first go - I'll probably have another go over the next year armed with more knowledge.

Oh yes. So it is. The one I was thinking of had a sort of mini dragon face on the nose guard.
I might have to persuade some Greek chum to lend me his helmet so I can use it as a base to sculpt a fibreglass one that doesn't look like the business end of a gunmetal dildo.

Re: Greek Helms
I would quite like a Chalcidian helmet -- they look like they have a bit more visibility than the Corinthian ones. I have no idea if I'll be able to afford it any time soon though.

Re: Greek Helms
There is considerable more vision in the chalcidian, Loads of time before we need to put an order in anyway.

Re: Greek Helms
It has alot more vision and felt very comfortable to wear. It is a small size, Colin knows he tried it on.

Re: Greek Helms
Ah, I have an enormous head, so I probably need to look elsewhere, helm-wise. I do like Norton's range of Greek helms...
Re: Greek Helms
someone said norton did my helmet for the film alexander. I know it was made for the film.
Re: Greek Helms
as long as I am working I ll be up for new helm. Yes current limits your vision and shouting .....

Re: Greek Helms
Ironically the chalcidian was the helmet of choice from the Hellanistic era which the game is set in. The corinthian is somewhat older (over 100 years or more) then the chalcidian though its the helmet most think of when people talk of ancient Greece. The chalcidian is technologically superior and gives much better vision and of course hearing as the ears are open to the air, it was pretty much the pinacle of Greek helmet design.
Norton do make a Boetian Cavalry Helm which i may yet get that is also period accurate and also offers excellent vision, sunshade and hearing and would have been used during the Hellanistic battles of Alexander etc...
If they are willing to make a larger mould for 10+ helms that is excellent news, i have always found Movie armour (FBFX) to be very helpful and cannot praise them enough tbh.

Re: Greek Helms
Thats what i'm thinking as well. Very effective helemts. Even the romans based their helms on them.

Re: Greek Helms
My (rather ill iftting as can be seen from profile pic) is the Norton Armouries Macedonain helm which does provide great all round vision but sod all hearing. I am very much thinking of changing this to a Corintian (phallus looking) style as they do look damn cool one but was looking at Norton again for this. Are there any other companies that make a non metal helm other then Norton? I also have a maissive head and the ones that Woz posted don't fit me at all so any other ideas?
Edit
Ahh just looked at FBFX - cheaper then nortin Did someone say that they do large sizes or might do with enough orders?
Cheers

Re: Greek Helms
Zanthras, gimme a shout if you want to sell your Macedonian helm -- I was admiring that at the event (and have, on the Norton site, for years!), but don't really want one unless you decide to get rid of yours. I think it's such a unique look that even 2 people wearing them in different groups at Odyssey would cause confusion!
